1. Color Gamut and Color Reproduction
Color gamut describes the range of colors a display can reproduce. When comparing specifications, use the same reference color space and measurement method. Percentages stated against NTSC, sRGB or DCI-P3 should not be treated as interchangeable measures of color accuracy.
The panel and backlight influence the available gamut, while display modes and color processing affect how the source content appears. A wider gamut alone does not guarantee closer matching between monitors.
2. Luminance, Gamma and Contrast
Luminance is measured in cd/m², commonly called nits. Gamma describes the relationship between input signal levels and displayed luminance, while contrast depends on measured white and black levels under stated test conditions.
A higher luminance setting does not, by itself, establish a different gamma curve or contrast ratio. These characteristics should be assessed separately using consistent test conditions.
Select the target luminance for the intended cabinet environment and review it alongside power and thermal requirements.
3. White Point and Sample Comparison
LED binning is one factor in backlight component consistency. The final on-screen white point also depends on the panel and display control settings, including RGB balance.
For a useful sample comparison, use the same test content and input signal settings. Keep viewing position, ambient lighting and warm-up conditions consistent, and review the selected display modes.
Visual checks can identify noticeable differences. Where a project specifies numerical color or luminance tolerances, suitable measurements are needed to assess compliance.
For multi-monitor cabinet projects, define the target luminance, white point and acceptance criteria before approving the sample configuration.
